The Vice Chancellor for External Relations is a senior executive role at the American University of Sharjah (AUS). The person in this position will oversee and advance the university’s global presence, institutional fundraising, strategic communication, alumni engagement, and executive and continuing education programs. This leadership role is essential for fostering external partnerships, enhancing the university’s reputation, managing philanthropic giving, and strengthening alumni relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
International Affairs:

Develop and implement strategies to enhance AUS’s global presence and reputation.

Oversee international partnerships, collaborations, and agreements.
-
Represent the university at international conferences and forums.
-
Oversee international student recruitment and support initiatives.
Strategic Communication:
-
Oversee communication strategies to enhance AUS’s image and brand.
-
Manage creation and dissemination of key messages and promotional materials.
-
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for effective communication.
-
Monitor public perception and media coverage for strategic adjustments.
Alumni Affairs:
-
Develop strategies to engage alumni and strengthen relationships.
-
Organize alumni events, networking opportunities, and professional development.
-
Collaborate with alumni chapters globally to foster a strong alumni network.

Support alumni fundraising efforts in partnership with the development team.
Executive and Continuing Education (ECE):
-
Build and deliver a portfolio of externally focused programs.

Leverage AUS’s capabilities to support lifelong learning within the UAE.
-
Establish collaborative relationships with leading UAE organizations for program relevance.
Philanthropy and Institutional Development:

Develop strategies for engaging alumni, donors, and supporters globally.

Implement best practices for institutional advancement and alumni relations.

Coordinate events to increase alumni involvement in AUS campus life.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
-
Education: Master’s degree in international relations, communications, business administration, or a related field.

Experience:
-
At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in external relations, strategic communication, or related fields.

Proven track record in managing international partnerships and global outreach.
-
Success in alumni engagement, development, and fundraising.

Experience in event management, partnership development, or fundraising.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.

Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex organizational environments.
