The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) is seeking a highly skilled Scientist in Plant Molecular Biology to advance research in genomics, molecular biology, and marker-assisted breeding. The role focuses on trait-based genomic research, developing climate-resilient crops, and contributing to ICBA’s breeding programs with a focus on salinity, heat, and drought tolerance.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead innovative resource mobilization and strengthen ICBA’s molecular biology research program.

Conduct high-throughput sequencing experiments and genetic mapping to identify marker-trait associations.

Develop and implement marker-assisted breeding strategies for crop improvement.

Perform DNA fingerprinting and molecular profiling of crop varieties and gene bank accessions.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including breeders, molecular biologists, and bioinformaticians.

Analyze large genomic datasets and integrate findings into breeding pipelines.

Supervise field experiments, lab activities, and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

Communicate research outcomes through presentations, reports, and scientific publications.

Train and mentor researchers, technicians, and students.
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential:

PhD in Plant Molecular Biology, Plant Biotechnology, or related fields with at least 5 years post-PhD experience.

Practical experience in marker-assisted breeding and field programs for climate-resilient crops.

Proficiency with PCR-based markers, high-throughput genotyping, and molecular tools.

Strong analytical skills for managing and interpreting large genomic datasets.

Fluent in English with excellent technical writing skills and proven publication record.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment.
Desirable:

Hands-on proficiency with genome sequencer operations.

Familiarity with breeding programs for climate-resilient crops such as quinoa and halophytes.

Knowledge of statistical methods for genetic data interpretation.

Basic knowledge of Arabic.
