Job Summary:

We are seeking a versatile, inspiring, and qualified Lower Strings Tutor to deliver one-to-one tuition across various musical genres, lead ensembles for both youth and adults, and support students’ musical development in a safe and inclusive environment. The role requires flexibility to teach across multiple sites, including some evening and weekend work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging 1:1 lower strings tuition across classical, pop, jazz, and other genres.

• Lead ensembles, selecting repertoire and preparing students for performances.

• Create a positive, supportive learning environment for students of all ages and skill levels.

• Develop students’ instrumental technique, musicianship, and performance abilities.

• Assist in planning and delivering concerts, assessments, and events.

• Maintain accurate student attendance records, progress reports, and assessments.

• Communicate regularly with colleagues, parents, and carers to support student progress.

• Adhere to safeguarding and wellbeing policies.

• Participate in staff meetings, training, and ongoing professional development.

• Travel between teaching locations while maintaining professionalism and punctuality.

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential:

• Degree in Music Performance or equivalent professional experience.

• Proven experience teaching strings across multiple genres.

• Experience leading musical ensembles.

• Strong musicianship, including score reading and arranging skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Flexible, enthusiastic approach with a commitment to inclusive music education.

• Willingness to work some term-time evenings and one weekend day.

• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.

Desirable:

• Ability to teach basic musicianship and/or an additional instrument (e.g., piano/keys).

• Experience teaching both youth and adult learners.

• Familiarity with RSL and ABRSM exam boards.
