Sunmarke School, part of Fortes Education, is seeking a dedicated Higher Learning Support Assistant (HLSA) to join the English Language Learning team in Primary. The role focuses on supporting students who are very new to English in Years 2–6, helping them access the curriculum, achieve learning goals, and build confidence in Maths, Science, STEAM, and MSC subjects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with class teachers to meet the learning needs of individual students, ensuring lessons are accessible.

• Adapt and prepare teaching materials tailored to students’ language levels.

• Lead small group sessions in Maths, Science, STEAM, and MSC.

• Provide in-class support during lessons and assist students in completing tasks.

• Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback and adjusting support strategies as necessary.

• Collaborate with the relevant ELL teacher to consolidate language learning across subjects.

• Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment, encouraging student engagement and independence.

• Support classroom management and maintain a productive learning atmosphere.

• Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions as required.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree (CELTA, TESOL, or similar desirable but not essential).

• At least 4 years of relevant experience in an international school setting.

• Experience working with children with language barriers.

• Good understanding of the British Curriculum, especially in Maths and Science.

• Ability to differentiate learning materials and tailor teaching strategies.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Team-oriented, flexible, and responsive to classroom needs.

• Understanding of child development and supporting children’s learning and well-being.
