Job Description:
The Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) will perform critical laboratory procedures in the preparation, evaluation, and preservation of donor corneal tissue for transplantation, research, and education. This role ensures all tissue meets the highest safety and quality standards in line with Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) standards and UAE Department of Health (DoH) regulations. The MLT will play a vital role in supporting sight restoration and advancing the Eye Bank’s mission in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform dissection, evaluation, and preservation of donor corneal tissue for transplant and research.

• Prepare tissues for clinical applications such as PK, DSAEK, and DMEK.

• Conduct slit lamp and specular microscopy to assess tissue clarity, cell density, and structural integrity.

• Review donor documentation, serology results, and risk profiles with the Medical Director.

• Ensure compliance with biosafety, sterility protocols, and regulatory standards.

• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (biosafety cabinets, centrifuges, slit lamps, refrigeration units).

• Manage inventory of reagents and consumables, and support audits, calibration, and quality assurance.

• Collaborate with coordinators, surgeons, and Medical Director for timely tissue delivery.

• Participate in shift rotations and on-call duties for urgent transplant needs.

• Train new staff and support research projects related to ocular regenerative medicine.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field.

• Certified Eye Bank Technician (CEBT) – mandatory.

• Eligible for or holding a valid UAE DoH license as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.

• Minimum 2 years of experience in tissue banking, transplant labs, or ophthalmic lab services.

• Proficiency in slit-lamp and specular microscopy, tissue preservation systems, and LIMS platforms.

Skills & Competencies:
