United Arab Emirates University’s Department of Integrative Agriculture (CAVM) is seeking a Research Assistant for a groundbreaking project aimed at standardizing aquaponics production of rice and wheat using tilapia fish in a commercial-scale system adapted to the UAE climate. This full-time, on-site role involves conducting experiments, analyzing results, and developing standardized protocols for sustainable and commercially viable production. The successful candidate will have strong expertise in aquaponics, hydroponics, crop science, and environmental management, particularly in arid-region agriculture.

Job Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and manage experiments on aquaponics production systems.

• Analyze experimental data and present findings in reports and presentations.

• Develop standardized protocols for commercial aquaponics rice and wheat production.

• Collaborate with local stakeholders to ensure commercial feasibility and compliance.

• Monitor water quality, manage water systems, and ensure environmental sustainability.

• Conduct biochemical and nutritional assessments of fish and plants.

• Work in a multidisciplinary team to achieve research goals.

Skills & Requirements:

• Undergraduate degree in horticulture, plant science, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

• Proven experience in integrated crop production, aquaponics, and hydroponics.

• Knowledge of establishing and cultivating aquaponic and hydroponic systems.

• Training or experience in analyzing water quality parameters and water management techniques.

• Familiarity with biochemical and nutritional assessments of fish and plants.

• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

• Highly motivated, self-driven, and able to work collaboratively.

Preferred Qualification:

• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture.
