Animal Caretaker – Ungulates
Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden Dubai , UAE
  • The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden is seeking a Part-Time Animal Caretaker to join their Ungulates team in Dubai. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about hoofed animals and animal welfare. You will be responsible for day-to-day husbandry, enrichment programs, recordkeeping, and guest interactions. The position requires both indoor and outdoor work in a zoo setting and involves collaboration with other departments to ensure the wellbeing of the zoo’s majestic ungulate collection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily animal husbandry and assist with routine medical care for ungulate species.

  • Monitor animal behavior, document changes, and report health concerns.

  • Maintain accurate records of animal weight, training, enrichment, and health.

  • Clean, repair, and enhance animal exhibits and service areas using power and lawn equipment.

  • Create and implement enrichment strategies to encourage natural behaviors and improve animal welfare.

  • Use operant conditioning principles to train animals, including during public presentations.

  • Engage with zoo guests to provide educational and positive experiences.

  • Participate in safety drills, emergency protocols, and collaborative zoo projects.

  • Drive zoo vehicles for animal transport and operational tasks in all seasons.

  • Follow strict health protocols to protect animal collections, including tuberculosis testing and PPE use.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of 1 year paid experience in an AZA-accredited zoo with relevant taxa; unpaid internships may be considered.

  • Strong observational, recordkeeping, and teamwork skills.

  • Must obtain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license within 30 days of hire and pass a driving history check.

  • Willingness to undergo background checks and drug testing (safety-sensitive position).

  • Must complete internal LMS training within the first 6 months.

  • Comfortable working flexible shifts, including weekends, holidays, and emergency responses.

Pay Rate: $15.93/hour (Part-Time)

This is a hands-on, rewarding opportunity to care for some of the Zoo’s most awe-inspiring residents while supporting the Zoo’s educational and conservation mission.
