Canonical, the leader behind the Ubuntu open-source platform, is hiring a Systems & Controls Accountant to lead best practices in systems, processes, and controls within its finance function. This full-time, remote role is ideal for a technically savvy accounting professional with deep expertise in NetSuite and experience in revenue recognition, especially within SaaS and technology sectors. Reporting to the Global Head of Accounting, the successful candidate will drive automation and scalable processes across global teams, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead complex NetSuite configurations, workflows, customizations, and integrations.

Implement best practices in data governance, security, and compliance within NetSuite and connected systems.

Develop and maintain detailed reports, dashboards, and KPIs for business insights.

Manage system maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting to ensure reliability.

Provide training and support to end-users for efficient use of NetSuite.

Oversee Sandbox accounts for development and seamless deployment of system updates.

Drive end-to-end automation of financial processes, aligning with industry best practices.

Mentor and develop the broader accounting and finance team.

Ensure correct revenue accounting treatment in line with IFRS and SaaS industry standards.

Act as primary liaison with external auditors regarding accounting and system controls.
Skills & Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience; CPA, CA, or similar professional qualification preferred.

Strong technical accounting skills with deep knowledge of IFRS, especially revenue recognition for software licensing, subscriptions, and services.

Significant experience in NetSuite ERP, Salesforce CRM, and related business systems.

Proven leadership and management experience in scaling accounting processes.

Familiarity with multi-country, multi-currency environments and tax considerations.

Excellent written and spoken English, interpersonal skills, and a proactive, result-driven approach.

Ability to travel up to twice a year for company events.

Background in software implementation, integration, or software engineering.

MBA or other relevant advanced business degrees.
