The Section Head of Research at the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi (NHMAD) plays a key leadership role in shaping and implementing the museum’s research strategy. This full-time, on-site position is responsible for promoting scientific excellence across disciplines, ensuring research aligns with NHMAD’s mission, and fostering global partnerships. Reporting to the Director of Science, the Section Head will oversee multiple research units and lead efforts to position NHMAD as a globally recognized center for natural history research.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute NHMAD’s long-term research strategy aligned with its mission and scientific vision.

• Lead and guide research units in Geosciences & Palaeontology, Biodiversity & Conservation Science, Community Science & Museum Studies, and Research Laboratories.

• Promote interdisciplinary and innovative approaches, including digital and genomic research.

• Oversee scientific utilization of collections and ensure alignment between research and curatorial strategies.

• Build national and international research collaborations with academic institutions and government agencies.

• Secure research funding through grant applications and manage budgets for various research initiatives.

• Ensure research results are effectively communicated to both academic audiences and the public via exhibitions and outreach programs.

• Monitor research quality, maintain scientific integrity, and ensure compliance with international standards.

Qualifications:

• Education: PhD in Biology, Geology, Paleontology, Environmental Science, or related field.

• Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years in scientific research, ideally within a museum or research institute.

  • Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary research teams and high-impact projects.

  • Demonstrated expertise in publishing and conducting collection-based research.

• Skills:

  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Arabic is a plus).

  • Experience in grant writing, budget management, and public engagement with science.
