The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi (NHMAD) is hiring a Section Head of Collections to lead the strategic development, care, and accessibility of its extensive collections—including physical, living, and digital assets. This full-time, on-site leadership role reports to the Director of Science and oversees the management of research collections, conservation, digital archives, and living botanical collections. The successful candidate will play a key role in positioning NHMAD as a global leader in natural history and scientific innovation.
Key Responsibilities:

Direct all aspects of collections management including curation, registration, digitisation, conservation, documentation, movement, and storage in accordance with international museum standards.

Ensure legal and ethical compliance, including adherence to the Nagoya Protocol and Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) frameworks.

Lead strategic initiatives to expand and digitise the museum’s collections, increasing global visibility and scientific relevance.

Drive interdisciplinary collaboration with curators, researchers, public engagement, and museum affairs teams to integrate collections into exhibitions and programming.

Manage and support the operations of Research Collections, Conservation & Installation, Digital Collections, Library, Archives, and Botanical Collections.

Develop and maintain global partnerships with universities, museums, and scientific institutions.

Champion public accessibility by enhancing the visibility of collections through exhibitions, educational initiatives, and digital platforms.

Oversee complex projects including facility development, digitisation campaigns, and collection movement logistics.

Prepare budget plans and manage resources efficiently, including securing external funding for strategic initiatives.

Monitor departmental performance, report progress, and recommend growth strategies aligned with NHMAD’s vision.
Requirements:

Education: Master’s degree in Museum Studies, Natural History, Conservation, or related field (PhD preferred).

Experience: Minimum 10 years in museum collections management, with a strong background in registration, digitisation, curation, or conservation in a cultural or natural history setting.

Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams and complex projects.

Deep understanding of international museum practices and collection care standards.

Knowledge of emerging technologies in collection management, including genomics and digital platforms.

Fluent in English; Arabic or additional language skills are an advantage.
