New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is hiring a Research Technician for the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB) under the supervision of Dr. Kristin Gunsalus. The role involves supporting research on novel bioactive agents and biocontrol methods to combat the Red Palm Weevil (RPW), a significant threat to palm trees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare laboratory media, bacterial/chemical solutions, and maintain reagent stocks.
- Breed Red Palm Weevils (RPW) in the laboratory for research purposes.
- Handle microbial libraries and conduct microbiological assays, including microbial isolation, identification, and characterization.
- Screen Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) strains for virulence against RPW and evaluate their effects on RPW biology.
- Identify and characterize Bt virulence factors using molecular, genomic, proteomic, and bioinformatic techniques.
- Perform microscopy and imaging tasks.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a biology research laboratory, with a strong focus on assay optimization and high-quality data generation.
- Expertise in bioinformatics and bacterial genomics is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
