Job Title: Regional General Manager – Operations

Role Overview:

The Regional General Manager – Operations is responsible for driving business profitability by maximizing sales, managing costs, and ensuring an exceptional customer shopping experience. This role focuses on team development, operational efficiency, and maintaining high retail standards to align with the brand’s customer promise.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Growth & Business Steering:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve top-line growth and bottom-line profitability.
  • Drive the retail agenda in alignment with commercial priorities and long-term business goals.
  • Contribute to the overall business strategy, transformation, and change management with the M&S Leadership Team.

Retail Operations Management:

  • Lead retail strategy to maximize daily commercial opportunities for sales growth and profitability.
  • Drive operational excellence across all stores to enhance customer experience and performance.
  • Ensure adherence to high operational standards and compliance with local regulations.
  • Oversee and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) tailored to market-specific needs.
  • Establish KPIs to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.

Customer Experience, Marketing & Visual Merchandising (VM):

  • Foster a customer-centric approach to maintain high in-store experience standards.
  • Strengthen brand representation and increase customer engagement.
  • Ensure a seamless, positive customer experience across all channels, aligning with the M&S customer promise.
  • Set ambitious targets for marketing activities, monitor performance, and adapt plans based on insights.
  • Collaborate with teams to gather insights and refine marketing strategies.

Corporate & Brand Management:

  • Ensure brand values and best practices are consistently maintained across all stores.
  • Collaborate with the brand principal to strengthen partnerships, address challenges, and drive commercial priorities.
  • Uphold operational standards and brand integrity while adapting customer experience strategies to local market needs.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Benchmark people KPIs with HR to drive productivity and hold managers accountable for performance.
  • Identify and develop succession plans for General Manager roles by recognizing critical positions and nurturing talent.

Skills & Qualifications:

Required Skills:

  • Strong strategic, analytical, and tactical abilities.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to lead by example.
  • Expertise in budget management and achieving high ROI.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and performance/operations metrics.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Extensive experience in leading retail and commercial operations within a sizeable retail brand.
  • Strong commercial knowledge in clothing and food retail.
  • Deep understanding of buying, supply chain, finance, and customer service functions.
  • Experience in setting, monitoring, and reporting business performance targets to stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to deliver best-in-class customer service, store standards, and operational excellence.
