The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Programme Management Officer for its CMS Dugong MOU Secretariat based in Abu Dhabi. This is a full-time, on-site professional-level (P-3) position focused on managing conservation initiatives under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Project to protect seagrass ecosystems and biodiversity in select Southeast Asian countries. The role is integral to advancing UNEP’s mandate to promote environmental sustainability and support international conservation treaties.
Key Responsibilities:

Support implementation of a four-year conservation project under the Dugong MOU aimed at seagrass protection in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Timor-Leste.

Ensure integration of seagrass ecosystem services into national policies and sustainable business models.

Collaborate with international partners, government stakeholders, and conservation agencies to execute program activities.

Monitor project performance, prepare progress reports, and contribute to policy and strategic development.

Assist the Dugong Project Director with operational coordination, budget management, and reporting requirements.

Represent UNEP/CMS in meetings, workshops, and conferences relevant to project scope.
Qualifications & Experience:

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, International Relations, or a related field.

A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in programme or project management in environmental or biodiversity-related sectors.

Experience working with multilateral environmental agreements, intergovernmental organizations, or international NGOs is desirable.

Familiarity with CMS or similar treaties and UNEP’s environmental mandates is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:

Strong organizational and project coordination skills in international environmental programs.

Ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, and international partners.

Proven experience in drafting project reports and policy documents.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; additional UN languages are a plus.

Proficiency in project management tools and software.
Languages:

Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other official UN languages is desirable.
