Job Title: Operations Manager

Job Description:
Our client, a leading global enterprise based in the UAE, is seeking a highly skilled Operations Manager – Commercial Shipping to oversee the smooth and profitable operation of their fleet of vessels. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for commercial management, voyage execution, operational oversight, cost control, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role requires a balance of commercial acumen, operational expertise, and technical awareness to optimize vessel performance and profitability across the fleet.

As the Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the operational strategy and driving continuous improvement to maximize efficiency and revenue.

Key Responsibilities:

Commercial Management & Chartering:

• Develop and implement commercial strategies to optimize vessel deployment and increase profitability.

• Demonstrate a strong understanding of charter party agreements (voyage and time charters), including rider clauses.

• Negotiate fixture notes for inward cargoes and chartering out of company-owned vessels.

• Coordinate with charterers, brokers, and agents to secure cargoes and ensure optimal fleet utilization.

• Manage documentation such as NORs, bills of lading, and charter party terms to ensure compliance and accuracy.

Voyage Execution & Operational Oversight:

• Oversee daily operations including voyage planning, scheduling, and monitoring to ensure timely and efficient cargo delivery.

• Provide guidance to Masters and onboard crew with clear voyage instructions in alignment with charter party obligations.

• Monitor bunker procurement, consumption, and optimization strategies across the fleet.

• Liaise with port agents and terminals to ensure smooth port calls and fast turnaround times.

• Handle post-fixture operations, including laytime calculations, demurrage/despatch settlements, and voyage accounting.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

• Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as voyage performance, vessel efficiency, and profitability.

• Analyze voyage and operational expenditure (OPEX) data to identify deviations, implement corrective actions, and present outcomes to management.

• Generate voyage profitability reports and highlight areas for improvement.

Technical Coordination (with Technical Team):

• Work closely with technical managers to ensure optimal vessel maintenance and performance.

• Coordinate dry-docking, repair schedules, and maintenance periods to minimize operational downtime.

• Analyze performance data on hull, machinery, and fuel efficiency to guide technical decisions.

• Support planning for vetting inspections, class surveys, PSC checks, and internal audits.

Compliance & Regulation:

• Ensure full adherence to international maritime regulations (IMO, MARPOL, SOLAS, ISM) and flag state requirements.

• Monitor compliance with all charter party terms and commercial agreements.

Budget & Cost Control:

• Oversee OPEX and voyage expenses, identifying areas for cost savings and optimizing procurement strategies.

• Assist in budgeting for ship maintenance, dry-docking, and voyage execution.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Shipping Business.

• 5-10 years of experience in commercial shipping operations, ideally with tankers.

• Comprehensive understanding of vessel operations, technical management, and international maritime regulations.

• Familiarity with PMS systems and commercial shipping tools.

• Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.

• Seagoing experience or a Certificate of Competency (Deck/Engine) is highly desirable.
