Our Institutional Credit Management (ICM) function within the 1st Line of Defense is designed to ensure consistent and integrated credit risk management across wholesale credit businesses, including Banking, Markets, and Services.


Position Overview

We are seeking a Credit Underwriter to join the ICM Underwriting team covering large and complex corporate, financial, and public sector clients across the Middle East and Central Asia. You will play a critical role in credit analysis, underwriting, credit approval, and monitoring, working in partnership with Business and Risk teams. This role reports directly to the ICM Underwriting Sub-Cluster Head for the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end credit underwriting process from origination to credit memo approval.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of Credit Approval Memos (CAM).

  • Conduct detailed financial analysis, projection modeling, and stress testing.

  • Oversee junior analysts’ work and ensure quality control.

  • Partner with business teams to balance opportunity and risk within Citi’s risk appetite.

  • Engage with regulators, internal audit teams, and control functions.

  • Support strategic initiatives and voice of the employee programs.

  • Provide mentoring and support informal learning and development efforts.

Risk Management Expertise

  • Hold senior credit approval authority or similar experience.

  • Deep understanding of global credit risk standards and capital markets.

  • Ability to evaluate complex deal structures and capital commitments.

  • Proficiency in macroeconomic and regulatory analysis.

  • Strong experience engaging with internal and external audit teams.

Client & Business Partnership

  • Align risk insights with business objectives to support sustainable growth.

  • Navigate local regulatory environments and competitive landscapes.

  • Break organizational silos to build strong cross-functional partnerships.

  • Deliver balanced and reasoned risk-return recommendations.

  • Collaborate with global teams to share and adopt best practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in corporate banking, credit risk, or corporate finance.

  • Preferably holds Senior Credit Officer designation or equivalent.

  • Strong business ethics, decision-making, and communication skills.

  • Fluent in English; strong written and verbal communication.

  • Skilled in negotiation, active listening, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management.

  • Capable of making high-stakes decisions under pressure.


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in finance, economics, or related fields.
