Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Principal Backend Engineer to take ownership of the design, development, and optimization of the backend infrastructure for our large-scale eCommerce platform. This role is pivotal in scaling systems, improving performance, and ensuring secure, reliable experiences for users across both web and mobile applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the architecture and development of scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems

• Set engineering standards and best practices for backend development

• Design and maintain microservices, APIs, and core backend logic for functionalities like product catalog, user management, order processing, and payments

• Integrate third-party solutions such as payment gateways, ERP/CRM systems, and logistics APIs

• Optimize server performance, database queries, and application response times for peak traffic

• Implement caching mechanisms, background processing, and asynchronous tasks

• Ensure secure authentication, data encryption, and compliance (e.g., PCI-DSS)

• Collaborate with product, DevOps, QA, and frontend teams for full-cycle feature delivery

• Mentor junior engineers, perform code reviews, and drive engineering excellence

• Work closely with DevSecOps to maintain and enhance backend security posture

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

• 8+ years of backend development experience with 2+ years in a senior/principal engineer role

• Deep experience in designing backend systems for eCommerce or high-traffic platforms

• Proficient in Node.js, Python, Java, or Go

• Strong with backend frameworks like Express.js, Spring Boot, Django, etc.

• Expertise with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis

• Experience building RESTful and GraphQL APIs

• Skilled in cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure (e.g., EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3)

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD pipelines

• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with headless or composable commerce architectures

• Understanding of mobile backend integration (iOS & Android)

• Exposure to DevOps and platform engineering tools and practices
