Medical Records Specialist – Freelance, Remote

Magic is hiring a Medical Records Specialist on a freelance, remote basis to support a U.S.-based law firm renowned for its precision in handling medical documentation for legal cases. This full-time role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional passionate about accuracy, legal support, and data management. You will play a critical role in retrieving, reviewing, and organizing medical records to help attorneys build strong legal cases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Medical Records Review & Analysis:

    • Examine and interpret medical records and summaries for relevance and accuracy.

    • Highlight key details, identify issues, and ensure records are case-ready.

  • Medical Records Retrieval Coordination:

    • Coordinate with vendors and internal staff to request, track, and obtain medical records.

    • Address delays and resolve documentation issues.

  • Data Entry & Case Management:

    • Accurately input data into the firm’s case management system (FileVine).

    • Keep client files updated and organized.

    • Assist with medical record–related projects as needed.

  • Communication & Collaboration:

    • Maintain clear communication with firm administrators and case managers.

    • Provide regular updates on record status.

    • Collaborate closely with the legal team to fulfill documentation needs.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience reviewing or managing medical records (legal, insurance, or healthcare background preferred).

  • Proficiency in case management or similar database systems.

  • Experience working with confidential information in a professional setting.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams or similar tools.

  • Able to work full-time in Mountain Daylight Time (MDT) hours.

Technical & Workspace Requirements:

  • Computer with minimum Intel i5 / AMD Ryzen 5 processor and 8GB RAM.

  • Reliable internet (40 MBPS or higher).

  • Noise-canceling headset with microphone and webcam.

  • Backup internet and computer system.

  • Quiet and dedicated home workspace.

Work Setup:

  • Job Type: Freelance, Remote

  • Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM MDT (occasional weekends)

  • Hours per Week: 40

  • Compensation: $7/hour (no benefits)
